Call to Order            7:09PM

Introduction of Board Members to public.

Public Comments:

  • Philip Craven, Nature Center – Philip acknowledged and thanked FICRA for the new trailhead signs which are much more visible now.  There is an ongoing need for additional volunteers to assist in maintaining the trail.
  • Philip had a concern regarding trucks he discovered in early May in front of the Nature Center Road that resulted in cutting down ½ of a dead tree but also cut back 10 feet of the branches over the road. There doesn’t appear to be any authorization for the cut back and it damaged the trees over the road. The FICRA Board did not have any knowledge of the cutback of branches and did not authorize any such action. Philip requested that any changes to the Nature Trail be submitted to the Committee as stated in the Fox Island Nature Center Committee Statement of Purpose and Scope of Activities.  The Board agreed.

Consent Agenda:

  • Unanimous Approval of May 2026 Minutes
  • Hal made a motion and Arlyn seconded for approval of the purchase of the new highchairs and that the new diaper station will be in the lady’s room. Motion passed by unanimous consent.
  • Craig made a motion and Hal seconded to purchase a movie night screen (3-sided tent) that would provide enough shade to enable the movies to start earlier.  Motion passed by unanimous consent.

PREVIOUS / ONGOING BUSINESS

  • Summer Solstice – need 6 people to set up tent on 6/12/26. Steve will be there on Friday. The event committee will be there between 2 and 3 on the 20th. Food truck comes at 4pm. Capitalize on Father’s Day for solstice event and cornhole tournament.
  •
  • FICRA Fair – Need help setting up the tent – needs 6 people to set it up. We also need our own tables. Arlyn made a motion that Craig seconded to purchase 10 6-ft tables and 8 round tables. The motion was passed by unanimous consent.
  • Fair opens 11, 11:30 opening program with Grand Marshall – (Cheryl Nelson ?) and national anthem, put national anthem on stage and tie sound system to around back (ask Dave Thomas about more speakers).
  • We have secured the Shy Boys from 12-2pm and will need one more band from 2-4.
  • Ask Mike Metters to serve at FICRA fair (beer tent)
  • Need to have a crew for cleaning up after the fair.
  • Food truck, versus chapel/yacht club (dispel rumors with flash)
  • Think about making the parade longer, maybe go around twice, silly hat contest?
  • Emily Leedy is doing t-shirts again this year
  • Need a couple of people to manage the silent auction – soliciting/gathering the items, donations, Hannah Jay?  253-509-4423
  • We will be needing a FICRA membership booth, cashier and t-shirt booth
  • Check with students who indicated interest in volunteering at GHHS job fair
  •

Movie Nights – The Event Committee met to order family friendly movies for the summer Movie Nights.  They will be on Friday evenings in July. Order the necessary bucket. Craig made motion to get our equipment in working order up to $150.00

Summer Games Test Day and Election Candidates’ Forum

  • Craig will send out (another!) request for the Election Candidates’ Forum to Belinda, Chuck West and Mike Solan – dates to be July 13th, 20th, 27th. We will put together a flyer detailing the event and send it out via email as well as the usual postings.
  • Summer games test day will be August 22nd and we will need 2 volunteers to help.

NEW BUSINESS

Clarifying FICRA Mission Statement – The Board discussed whether to change the FICRA Mission statement but decided to simply differentiate between formal mission statement (as stated in our bylaws) and our “vision statement”—which is “To promote an enduring, vibrant community on Fox Island.”

Community Survey – check back with Angela. Suggested a QR code on Membership table (at the FICRA fair) for survey. The survey will also go in the FICRA Flash as well as sending it out on Constant Comment (good for sending out one-page flyers.)

Follow up with Lisa Stapleton on volunteering to make a calendar for FICRA, and Angela volunteering to make posters.

FICRA Flash –identifying elements of a template, deadlines for committees to contribute, next one goes out just before FICRA Fair

Arlyn made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Craig seconded. Vote was unanimous. Motion carried.

Adjournment at 8:45pm

Next FICRA Building Trust Meeting is scheduled for Thursday, July 9, 2026, at 7:00 pm in the Nichols Community Center.
